Father’s Day gifts don’t have to be expensive or come in elaborate packaging. The sweetest gifts are the ones our kids make for us. Gather the kids and a few supplies to make this darling fish themed Hooked On You Dad! handprint art.
You only need a few things and you can find them all at your favorite JoAnn Fabric and Craft Store or shop online for the following:
- White canvas, 12×12
- Krylon spray paint, Peekaboo Blue
- Apple Barrel acrylic paint, Pool Blue, Cool Blue, Cobalt Blue, Neon Blue
- Paint brushes
- Paint palette
- Tulip fabric markers
- Martha Stewart dauber set
- Optional: Wax paper, paper towel, scratch paper
Easy How To Steps For Fish Handprint Art:
- Prep canvas – spray paint canvas lightly, and allow 5 minutes to dry.
- Design – draw your design to give your little one guidance on what the art will look like at the end… or let them just be creative!
- Handprint – paint hand, smoothing out all areas and quickly make handprint on canvas with thumb upwards. (Tip: Put wax paper under the canvas and palette to keep paint off your table.)
- Thumbprints – use a variety of blues to place thumbprints around larger handprint fish to show dimension in the water.
- Embellish fish – use fabric markers to add details like lips, eyes and fins to handprints and thumbprints.
- Add sentiment – let your kiddo write a message to dad, like “I’m hooked on you Daddy!”
My little guy is so excited to give his dad his art project and knowing my hubby it will grace his office wall right next to his deep sea fishing pictures. {grin} In my opinion, capture your baby’s handprints as long as they’ll let you. There will be a day they’ll stop and my heart will sink. Until then I plan to make as many as I can.
