steps:
making faces
- Melt butter and marshmallows over low heat.
- Lay out a piece of parchment paper and spray your egg cookie cutter with cooking spray so that your crispy cereal will release easily.
- Add your rice crispies to your marshmallows and butter and stir well. (Tip: Add the cereal a little at a time to ensure you don’t make them too dry.)
- Spray a large spoon with cooking spray and then scoop up the crispy cereal and mold it into your cookie cutter. Pack down the cereal mixture and set the newly formed pirate face to the side. Repeat this five more times and allow them to cool for at least 15 minutes before icing.
icing
- Insert the popsicle sticks into the bottom (small part of the egg) of each crispy. (Tip: Doing it later might cause your icing to crack.)
- Spoon out about a half of the icing into a bowl and tint it red (gel food coloring works best).
- Clip the corner of a resealable bag, insert the bottom of a connector, and add 3 large spoons of icing into the bag. Place the #3 tip on the outside and secure the top of the connector.
- Using the photo as a guide, pipe the outline of the skull cap on the large part of the egg shaped crispy.
- Change the tip on the bag to #46 and carefully pipe on the tie at the edge of the skullcap.
- Microwave the remaining red icing in the bowl for 10 to 15 seconds until dripping but not soupy.
- Slowly spoon red icing into the skull cap area and smooth it in with a toothpick.
- Using the top of the connector, attach the #7 tip and pipe on the eyes, patch, nose and mouth.
- Allow the icing to set for at least five minutes.
- Taking your second resealable bag, clip a corner and insert the bottom of a connector, spoon in two spoons of white icing, and attach the #3 tip and top of the connector. (NOTE: Make sure to clean your tip well so that your icing isn’t pink.)
- Pipe dots and stripes onto your skull caps.
- Set crispies aside and allow them to harden for several hours before packaging.
