Easy Faux Weathered Wood Photo Backdrop | thecelebrationshoppe.com

I’ve been wanting some new weathered wood photo backdrops. And not just one color. No. That would be too easy to convince my hubby to help with. I want white, turquoise, antique (aka just old…) and maybe even orange!

The biggest hold up was honestly finding old barn wood or… yep… talking the hubby into helping me assemble new wood. There has just been too little time and too long of a list lately.

Until… I was at Home Depot a week or so ago (shopping for my pantry organization) and found “pre-made” 2×4′ boards (9 planks in this width). Perfect!

I wanted to be able to move mine around easily (it’s a bit heavy) so I cut them in half. Plus, this gives me not only a “bottom” but also a “back” if I’m shooting something tall.

To make your own “new” {grin} weathered wood photo backdrop, you’ll need:

  • Pre-made boards (again, I got 2×4′  boards at Home Depot, but there are other sizes)
  • Paint (any color you desire), I used a snow white acrylic paint because it was thin and I wanted to see all the grain
  • Paint brush
  • Cloth
  • Fine grain sandpaper

5 easy steps:

  1. Cut your pre-made boards to desired size if you want. I wanted squares, so I cut mine in half.
  2. Water down your paint. Mine was 2 part paint to 1 part water. That said, test it out on one edge first to make sure it’s the effect you’re looking for.
  3. Paint and wipe off excess (most of the paint) immediately.
  4. Allow to dry.
  5. Using fine sandpaper, scuff up your boards as much or as little as you want.

And the best part, one board makes two backdrops! This one is white on one side, and will soon be turquoise on the other! {smile}

As always, I hope you’re inspired to craft, bake, create and celebrate!
