I’m so excited to share with you my first Halloween cake of the season (I have several more planned!). I dubbed this one “gone batty!” {grin}
And guess what else! I’m hosting a Halloween blog hop with some of my creative and crafty friends! From Halloween party treats to Halloween favors to Halloween home décor, we’ve got you covered! Scroll down to see all of the creative and creepy ideas!
But first, let’s talk cake! A crafty bat cake to be exact!
If you’re a baker, like me, whip out a two layer flat iced cake and pop it in the fridge. If you’re not, no worries! Head down to your favorite bakery (or even your favorite grocery) and pick up a simple no decoration cake. Even for those of us that love to bake, in a time crunch, heading to the local bakery is the best corner to cut!
Now that you have the cake squared away, let’s get crafty!
You’ll need:
- Sharp scissors
- Lollipop sticks (cut in half or use short ones)
- Co’ordinations Black Glitter Cardstock (available at JoAnn Fabric and Craft Stores)
- Bat template (half of a bat, intended to be cut out of folded sheet)
- Hot glue
- Optional: Black sixlet candies to finish the cake edges (available at JoAnn Fabric and Craft Stores)
Easy steps for decorating your “gone batty” cake:
- Fold cardstock in half (don’t crease too much or it will tear)
- Place template (half of bat) on fold line and cut. This will give you a symmetrical bat and you’ll already have that nice fold that makes them look like they’re flying
- Hot glue bats to the tips of your lollipop sticks
- Insert into your cake at varying heights so that they appear to be flying in an upward motion
- Optional: Attach additional bats to your cake backdrop for extra effect!
Now please HOP over and visit my friends!
