For the first year in about 10 years, my family is going to have a Chinese Christmas party! Eeek! Have you ever played? These parties are also called Christmas Swaps, Dirty Santa, Grinch Exchange, and the name I grew up hearing, White Elephant Christmas party.
Best Gift Ideas For A Chinese Christmas Party
Whatever you call your gift exchange, make sure you give a great gift! You can always go funny, but I prefer creative. Mine this year will be a Date Night kit.
First, get some great snacks. I have a thing for G.H. Cretors The Mix popcorn. It’s a buttery blend of rich caramel and cheesy popcorn. My second favorite is the Dill Pickle flavor. I know what you’re thinking… but it’s crazy good. I’m pairing my gourmet popcorn with chocolate treats, movie rentals and FREE babysitting hours! Rules For A Chinese Christmas Exchange
The Chinese and White Elephant gift exchange rules are simple:
- Choose a number – place a number for each person in a basket and allow everyone to choose. Whomever chooses #1, goes first.
- Selecting gifts – #1 may select any of the unwrapped gifts. Whomever selected #2 can either take the opened gift or unwrap another gift. If the guest takes #1’s gift, then #1 gets to select another gift from the pile. #3 can either take from #1 or #2, or get a new gift, and so on.
- Takebacks – each time a gift is taken away from someone, that person gets to select again. The guest may select any gift except the one that was just taken away. The guest may however, have the opportunity to select it again later.
- Frozen – some gifts may get stolen several times. The fourth person to get a gift, may keep it. No more swiping the gift. The gift is frozen.
- Advantage of being first – since #1 didn’t get to steal form anyone, that guest gets to go last ans swap if he/she wants to. The only gift #1 can’t take is a frozen gift.
