Summer Reading programs can be found at libraries and book stores nationwide. But how can we keep our kids entertained while learning? We’ve listed a few great ideas:
- Maps for Kids & Summer Reading via KC Adventures suggests tagging the books location or even following a characters travels via the map. Love this!
- DIY spiny spellers via Filthy Wizard are the perfect way to make spelling practice fun.
- Kids Book Report Worksheet via b.nute is a FREE printable that helps kids remember more from each story.
- Sight Word Jenga via First Grade Diaries can be tailored to any age {think spelling bee!}
- Popsicle Flashcards via Scholastic gives kiddos a darling way to match words from word families for little ones to antonyms/synonyms for the older kids.
- Flashlight Word Game via Kiwi Crate has a name that speaks for itself, but I have to give Kiwi Crate serious props for a fantastic idea!
- Cut Paper Making a Book via Art for Small Hands would make a wonderful summer reading reaction journal. Have your reader stop about halfway through the story and predict what will happen next.
- Storytelling Stones via Red Bird Crafts is a lovely way to make reading and writing come alive through your child’s imagination.
- Fishing for Letters via first palette is a fantastic way to learn letter identification, letter sounds or even short spelling words.
- Sight Word Twister via Mom With A Lesson Plan get kids outside playing while beefing up those reading skills!
