Easter Chick Bunting & Capturing Inspiration In The Moment

Where do you find inspiration when you craft?

Fuzzy Easter Chicks | Easter Inspiration with Kim Byers

I personally can see a lovely fabric pattern and start wondering how it would look painted on Easter eggs. Or, I can be wandering the isles of Jo-Ann Fabric and Craft Stores and see fuzzy little Easter chicks and start dreaming about how they would look as a garland on my mantel. {wink}

Which is by the way exactly what happened. My kids love to paint Easter eggs. You know… the old fashioned way with paint brushes and craft paint. It’s a long story but we have this old fairy-tale book and the bunnies paint with brushes. {grin}

That same afternoon we ran into Jo-Ann Fabric and Craft Stores to pick up a few things for a project I was planning and I found these darling fuzzy little chicks in the holiday isle. I love bunnies for Easter just like the next girl, but there was something about these little cuties that inspired me.

Know what I did… I pulled my iPad out and searched the Cricut Design Space app for iPad®  for Easter chick images. I carry my iPad around with me most of the time and within seconds I had some fun ideas to pull into a new project mat. I hit save and finished it up when I got home, but the best part is that I didn’t lose the idea. You know those times when you have great ideas, but by the time you get back to your laptop you’ve forgotten part or all of it… Yep. It’s happened to me a bunch too.

So now back at home I was able to sit my little chicks around with the sweet eggs my babies painted and from those two things I was able to finish up my Easter chick bunting.

And because the Cricut Explore Air is is bluetooth capable I never went to my computer. I created my entire project, and sent it to the machine to cut, right from my iPad. It may just be me, but for some reason it feels more organic and less like work using my iPad. Maybe it’s because I associate my laptop with work… or maybe it’s because I never had to sit down. {wink}

Easter Chick Bunting with Cricut Explore and Design Space App

So let’s get crafty and making some Easter chick bunting!

You’ll need (everything can be found at Jo-Ann Fabric and Craft Stores):

  • Cricut Explore Air (or Cricut Explore with bluetooth adapter)
  • Cricut Design Space app for iPad®
  • my Easter Chick project in Design Space
  • Regular Cricut Mat
  • Cardstock (I chose the new bright and trendy Coredination papers)
  • Ribbon
  • Glue dots or Zots
  • Foam adhesive squares
  • Optional: Darling little fuzzy chicks

And for the super easy steps:

  1. Design – Open my project in Design Space. Customize it any way you like. Change the colors, make it longer, resize it. Then send it to your Cricut Explore Air to cut.
  2. Assemble – using glue dots, or Zots, and foam adhesive squares. I like to use the foam because it gives paper a 3-D feel.
  3. Hang – attach your chicks and eggs to ribbon with more Zots and hang.

It’s that easy!

I couldn’t stop there though. After whipping out my Easter chick banner in a matter of minutes, I decided to start work on some new Easter pails for my kiddos. Again… inspiration struck while in Jo-Ann Fabric and Craft Stores and I picked up these sweet little metal pails. They have tons of colors. I personalized some and made some general ones. Here’s just a glimpse of what I did. More detail along with the Design Space inks to create your own tomorrow!
