Plaid is trending in Christmas crafts and home decor again this year. If you’d like to infuse a bit of plaid into your Christmas decorations, I have just the simple plaid penguin Christmas crafts for you!
These cuties are going to grace my entryway when guests come in to shake off the cold! And if you’re wondering what the “S” is for… well Santa of course! {wink}
Let’s Make Plaid Christmas Canvas Art
You’ll need a few supplies:
- Elmer’s Craft Bond (fabric and leather)
- 10×10 canvas
- Black glitter iron-on
- Silver glitter iron-on
- White iron-on
- Plaid fabric (less than a 1/4 yard)
- Orange felt
- Iron and ironing board
- Scissors
- Die cutting machine
You can create just about any design with a piece of paper and scissors. So if you don’t have a die cutting machine, I would personally draw myself a penguin and hand cut out the iron-on. The body is a simple symmetrical shape in two pieces with dots for the eyes and a triangle for the beak. If you have a die cutting machine, you can use my Penguin and Baby It’s Cold Outside graphics to take out all the hard cutting work. {wink}
Easy how to steps:
- Cut – either cut out the graphics with a die cutting machine or by hand. If using a die cutting machine, remember to flip the design to its mirror image. Black for lettering and penguin body, silver for snowflakes and white for the interior penguin body.
- Iron – iron the graphics on the canvas. The lettering is centered, but the penguin is off-center so the scarf can billow. {grin}
- Cut – fussy cut the scarf pieces out of plaid fabric. I used two skinny pieces for the lettering and a chunky piece to go around the penguin shoulders. If you’re using my graphics, cut the scarfs out of paper and use them as a template to cut the fabric.
- Glue – using Elmer’s Craft Bond, glue the fabric in place, pinching as you go so that it looks as if it’s blowing.
