Kid Craft: Footprint Manger Scene {DIY Tutorial}

Our faith holds first place in our house at Christmas time. This year I thought what better way to remind my children the real reason for the season, than with a keepsake kids Christmas artwork project.

This post is part of a social shopper marketing insight campaign with Pollinate Media Group™ and Sharpie, but all my opinions are my own. #pmedia #StaplesSharpie http://cmp.ly/3/8vNxcO.

I warn you… the painting of the feet is ticklish so you may want to place a towel… or two… down. I warned my boys and they still flopped all over the place. {grin} In the end, it was so worth it to have their little (or not so little anymore) feet cradling their version of the baby Jesus.

To make your own Footprint Manger Scene, you’ll need:

  • Square white canvas
  • Sharpies – 12 ct. multipack, 4 ct. metallic assortment and either the silver or gold 4 pack (I LOVE them all and they’re all on sale at Staples right now!)
  • Brown craft paint for foot
  • Pearl white craft paint for head (we chose to stamp his head on with a finger but there are light Sharpies in the pack)
  • Paint brush
  • Optional: white Kraft paper

And now for the easy kid crafting steps:

Footprint – paint your child’s foot liberally with brown paint and then press evenly to the center lower portion of the white canvas. Allow to dry completely.

Prep and practice – since canvas is unforgiving, I put white paper (available in rolls like gift wrap) out under the canvases so my kids could practice what they’re planning to draw before they put Sharpie to canvas. You can see in the top image my youngest practicing his stars. {wink}

Draw – then just let them go! You can see from the side-by-side shot below that our manger scenes are slightly different, but in my mind that is what makes them that much more precious.

Artist signature – and don’t forget to let them sign their art. We like to date ours too!

Staples has all the Sharpies for your holiday needs! I mean $6 for a 12 ct Multi Colored pack of Sharpies! Woo Hoo! And the Sharpie Metallic Assorted 4-CT pack, including the Silver pack and the Gold pack are only $5. I’m personally a bit obsessed with all my Sharpie colors, but the metallic are my new favorites!
