Picnic tables, grilling, campfires for s’ mores, sparklers and laugh out loud jokes… {sigh} It makes me think of my childhood 4th of July gatherings with my mom’s huge family and “make your own” hot dog bars!
For summer entertaining I love setting up “make your own” and “serve yourself” options. And with grilling season upon us, everyone is craving an all-American hot dog! What makes a kosher hot dog different? It’s all about what makes the cut (and what doesn’t). Hebrew National is choosy about what goes into their franks – only 100% pure kosher beef so you know what you’re getting and they taste great.
Next to the cut of meat, a successful hot dog bar must be kept covered. When you’re gathering in an open space like your backyard, people to tend to wander and mingle and no one is eating at the same time so keeping your hot dogs and fixins fresh is essential.
You’ll also want to make sure your tableware is easy to manage while standing or sitting so there are no juggling acts. These little hot dog baskets are the perfect answer!
When it comes to your hot dog fixins, that’s the fun part. I set up my families favorites with red onion, yellow onion, Hunt’s Ketchup, Gulden’s Mustard and tomato. The hubby sometimes likes a little jalapeno too!
Another important favorite for our hot dog bars…
my mom’s southern style potato salad. It is amazing! I’ll be posting a step-by-step pictorial of this yummy recipe using Gulden’s Yellow Mustard tomorrow, so stay tuned!
