Let’s make a Minnie Mouse Halloween costume with Cricut! And what about Mickey?! I made a Mickey Mouse Halloween costume for our little dog, because there can’t be a Minnie without a Mickey!
I love a great DIY Halloween costume, especially if it can be semi-handmade! I’m not the greatest seamstress. I’m learning with the help of my mom, but I’d rather take some cute store bought basics and embellish them. So let’s get crafty and make a Minnie Mouse Halloween costume for my sweet little niece. This is a handmade costume you can easily make yourself with your Cricut Maker.
For this Halloween costume, I made several things and you can make one of them, or all of them with your Cricut!

How To Make A Minnie Mouse Halloween Costume Shirt
- Design & Measure – It’s important to measure the chest of your tee and determine how large you want your design. Size it in Design Space by pulling or reducing the design at the corners.
- Mirror Image & Cut – Don’t forget to mirror image your design once you select “make.” Place the iron-on shiny side down on your mat and cut.
- Weed – Using a weeding tool, take out all the negative material on the backer, remembering to pull the center of the letters out.
- Place & Layer – Measure your tee again, find the center point, place the design on the tee and press the first layer. Layering light iron-on on top of glitter iron-on is okay, but never layer the other way around.
- Press – using the EasyPress 2 for best results, preheat material. Place weeded design, liner side up, onto the preheated material. Heat each area using the EasyPress guide based on what type of fabric you’re using. The guide will also tell you how long to heat the back and whether or not to peel warm or cool.
How To Make Minnie Mouse Halloween Costume Ears & Bow
- Design – I purchased the Mickey Mouse head. Added a circle to it and used the slice tool to cut parts of it away and make it a headband shape.
- Measure – use a headband the size of your child’s head, measure the width when it’s on the child’s head to get a true size. Resize the Mickey Mouse ears in Design Space.
- Cut – you’ll need two blades, a Knife Blade and the regular Maker blade.
- Cut chipboard – insert the Knife Blade, follow the prompts in Design Space, remembering to tape the edges down to a strong grip mat, and cut. It will take up to 20 passes and could take several minutes.
- Cut felt – using the standard blade, cut two pieces of the same design for the front and the back of the ears. Also cut out Minnie Mouse’s bow and glue it to the front of the ears in the middle.
- Assemble – using Elmer’s Xtreme glue, add felt to the front and back of chipboard. Using hot glue, attach chipboard to the headband. (NOTE: If you have at least 24 hours before the costume will be worn, use a stronger glue and clamp it in place with chip clips.)
How To Make Minnie Mouse Trick or Treat Bag
- Design & Measure – It’s important to measure the tote and determine how large you want your design.
- Place & Layer – Measure your tote again, find the center point, place the design on the tee and press the first layer.
How To Make Minnie Mouse Halloween Costume Shoe Covers
- Design – I purchased the Minnie Mouse shoe from Design Space.
- Measure – measure your child’s foot, you’ll want the ankle to go through the hole. I would suggest cutting a sample in paper to size it best before cutting out of chipboard.
- Cut – you’ll need the Knife Blade.
- Cut chipboard – insert the Knife Blade, follow the prompts in Design Space, remembering to tape the edges down to a strong grip mat, and cut. It will take up to 20 passes and could take several minutes.
- Cut plush foam – using the Knife Blade, cut again from yellow plush foam.
- Assemble – using Elmer’s Xtreme glue, add foam to the front of the chipboard.
These Minnie Mouse shoe covers will also work well over shoes, just put them on first!
Mickey Mouse Dog Halloween Costume
Our little sweetheart LOVES our puppy (who’s actually older than she is) so I thought it would be darling to dress our Shorkie, Boo Boo, up like Mickey Mouse.
- Mickey Mouse Ears – use the same template as Minnie’s ears, just reduce the size to fit your puppy’s head. I used felt only, without the chipboard, and attached them with bobby-pins to the fur.
- Pendant/Dog Collar – using a sturdy cardstock, cut out the Mickey Mouse design and string it with red ribbon. For dark dogs, I suggest white cardstock.
- Mickey’s Shorts – take a pair of kid leggings, the size that would fit your dog, cut a hole for the tail and cut off the legs to make shorts.
