I’m a sucker for Disney movies… well really Disney anything… {grin} and the latest movie, Inside Out, just hit Target shelves!
Around here, that means movie night! I’ve told you all before that my family has a standing movie night every Friday night, well… this past Friday night was all about Inside Out! And what’s more, if you get the Inside Out DVD or Blu-Ray at Target, you get 20 minutes of exclusive bonus content and deleted scenes. Trust me, you want to see Rylie’s first date short! Hilarious!
While at Target, I not only picked up the Blu-Ray, but all of our movie night snacks too.
And I couldn’t resist… I whipped up some funny food picks to go with the treats and Inside Out! You can download them at the bottom of this post.
For movie night snacks, I picked up a variety of goodies that represent each of the emotions! They’re arranged in the order of appearance in the movie (my little editor was sitting next to me as I wrote and he insisted we get this right… oh, and disgust came in when broccoli was introduced at mealtime!). So… we have Market Pantry Extra Butter Popcorn to represent JOY, Market Pantry Mini Marshmallows to represent SADNESS, Archer Farms Monster Mix to represent FEAR, and Market Pantry Sour Gummy Worms to represent DISGUST. The kids loved mixing a little dash of each emotion into their JOY (aka popcorn bowl). {wink}
And you can’t leave out ANGER so I whipped up some Snickerdoodle Cupcakes. The shimmer of cinnamon made me think of fire. Don’t ya think!
To make snickerdoodle cupcakes, you’ll need:
-
1 package white cake mix
-
1 1/4 cup milk
-
1 cup or 2 sticks of butter, melted
- 4 large eggs, room temperature
- 2 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
- 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon, plus 1/2 teaspoon for dusting
- 1 3/4 cups sugar, plus 2 tablespoons for dusting
Baking instructions:
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
- Sift together cake mix and 1 tablespoon cinnamon.
- With an electric mixer on medium-high speed, cream butter and sugar until pale and fluffy. Add eggs, one at a time, beating until each is incorporated, scraping down sides of bowl as needed. Beat in vanilla. Reduce speed to low. Add flour mixture in three batches, alternating with two additions of milk, and beating until combined after each.
- Fill cupcake tins 2/3 way full and bake for 14 to 18 minutes depending on your oven.
- Allow the cupcakes to cool completely.
For the frosting, I used this 7-minute frosting recipe and dusted them with sugar and and ground cinnamon.
If you’ve not seen the movie yet, it’s really fun. There are several parts that will have you laughing out loud (with emphasis on the loud in my house) and there are little nuggets of wisdom you’ll be able to pluck and bring up with your kids later. It’s really a clever little movie and one the whole family will enjoy!
