I whipped up this log cabin DIY snow globe for my winter wonderland Christmas mantel using half a bird house… yep. I sawed a bird house in half. {grin}
Working on a project for HGTV and JoAnn Fabric and Craft Stores I crafted several items for a winter wonderland Christmas mantel and this little snow globe was one of the more unique things I did.
You’ll need:
- Bird house (unfinished log cabin from the wood craft isle and a saw if it’s too large for your globe)
- Glass vase or globe (from floral section)
- Glass paint, pearl white from the Martha Stewart line
- Snowflake and tree stencils, Martha Stewart
- Fairy garden tools (saw, shovel)
- Faux snow
- Berry twine (from floral section)
- Plank (from wood craft isle)
- Optional: Twigs for firewood
Easy steps
- Stencil snowflakes and trees onto globe/vase.
- Saw off back of bird house if too large. And then saw bird hole in front into a door.
- Wrap house in berry twine, like Christmas lights
- Place all items as you want them, sprinkle faux snow, make sidewalk by pulling snow away from cabin with two fingers
