Let’s talk baby shower themes! A classic and one of my favorites is the idea of “Showering Her With Love!” hence the raindrops and umbrella. {wink} And one of my favorite inexpensive party ideas, the balloon decoration! Balloons can bring color, create height, cover the floor, fill in big party spaces, and all for pennies. Just grab a Balloon Time tank and let’s plan a baby shower!
For the overall table decoration, I loved the idea of the actual “shower” over the table. To recreate this you’ll need all the balloon decoration ideas that I’ll outline in a minute, but you also need a pretty little clear umbrella and rain. For the umbrella, I measured my table and then chose a child’s size umbrella so that it wouldn’t overhang. And for the rain, I cut out paper raindrops in multiple shades of blue and sewed them in a line. If you place the raindrops on wax paper as you sew, they’ll stay together in a line and then you can simply tear away the wax paper. I also made a scallop table runner… more on that in a future post.
Okay, let’s talk balloons. There are three balloon decoration ideas in this baby shower theme:
- Balloon clouds – using 10″ clear balloons and two balloon wall attachments
- Oversized heart balloons – using 24″ white round balloons, paper hearts and clear fishing line
- Balloon cake topper – using 4″ mini blue balloons and wooden dowels
Let’s take each balloon decoration one by one.
For the balloon clouds, you’ll want to inflate 25 or so clear balloons for a small space like this one. Additionally, if you want to bring them down the wall, Command Brand makes a damage-free Balloon Buncher that’s clear and holds three balloons. I recommend still using helium in these balloons if you can because it helps them to stand up well and not look droopy.
For the oversized balloons, I chose to embellish them with paper hearts. In addition to being larger, these balloons are thicker so they hold up better and hold the helium longer.
Attach them to floor next to your table with clear fishing line (one of my favorite craft accessories!).
Last, but not least, make a super simple balloon cake topper. For these, use helium. If you don’t, they’ll slouch and won’t be nearly as darling. Just inflate mini balloons, attach with a glue dot to wooden dowels and insert. Done. Darling and simple… my kind of craft!
Want to see a closer look at the scallop table runner?
Did you wonder why the blue and orange color palette? There are actually two reasons. I wanted something a bit different from the traditional pink and blue, but I really needed the blue for the rain. So when browsing fabrics I came across this blue, orange and red pattern. I really love how it all came together.

I would throw an awesome 20’s Gatsby Party! I love all the metallics!
I’d use it for my Grandma’s 80th birthday party this summer!
Oh my the possibilities…I would probably start with an epic Summer Pool Party with a bright and colorful flamingo & pineapple theme. I’ve always wanted to have a flamingo themed party and I think it would be the perfect way to kick off the summer season!
This is a totally cute idea. Love how you attached hearts to the oversized balloon! And the simple cake topper idea is brilliant!
I am planing a “Beau-tea party” for my daughter’s 9th birthday and I want it to be perfect. Her great grandmother was all about proper etiquette and was supposed to come give the girls etiquette lessons when we first discussed this party, but sadly she passed away pretty sudden earlier this year… so I want it to be in honor of Granny… my daughter misses her so badly and it breaks my heart.
Amy – so sorry to hear about her great grandmother. The party idea sounds lovely and I wish you the best of luck with your entries!
I have a lot coming up very soon to plan for. My dad turns 80 and they are moving to be near us, my niece is getting married and I am doing her shower.
Peggy – you could definitely use this $500 prize! Good luck!!
Hi Kim!
This is so fun! I love all of your ideas for a baby shower! We’re having a Battle of the Sexes Party in July! My fiancé and I are having a small destination wedding in August, so instead of the traditional wedding pre-game activities, we decided to have a Battle of the Sexes Party! There are so many fun balloon games that we could play! Winning this contest would definitely add to our decorations, game selection and level of fun! Thank you for the inspiration and the opportunity to win!
