I made this cute DIY rolling book box and toy storage box to help contain and organize my kids clutter! Toys and books can take over the house if you let them. My advice, teach your kiddos about toy storage and how to pick up after themselves early. {wink}

Make A Toy Storage Box

This week my family and I are moving across the country. We are excited for the new adventure, but I know that the next few weeks are going to be crazy while we adjust to our new surroundings and live amongst boxes! As we settle into our new (temporary) home, one of my priorities is to set up my boys’ bedroom. They’re not used to sharing a space, but while we build they’re just going to have to share. To help keep their new bedroom organized, I crafted these rolling toy storage crates. They’re so easy; let’s make one or two!

You’ll need a few supplies from your JoAnn Fabric and Craft Store to make these DIY boxes:

  • Wooden storage crate
  • 4 small casters
  • Fine sand paper
  • White Krylon Spray Paint
  • Baby Blue Krylon Spray Paint
  • Crystal Clear Krylon Spray Paint
  • Letter stencil
  • Sharpie
  • Pencil
  • Craft paint & brush
  • Drill

It’s actually pretty easy to make this DIY Rolling Book Box and Toy Storage Box, so let’s get started!

1. Paint – To start spray paint the crate white. Allow to dry completely. Spray paint a thin coat of light blue (or whatever color you prefer). Allow to dry completely.

2. Sand – Next, using fine sand paper, gently run over the entire crate giving it a bit of an aged look.

3. Measure – Measure crate base for caster placement.

4. Drill – Now drill holes and be gentle. These crates are wonderful, but if you drill in the wrong place (e.g., outside of the corners) you can cause the wood to splinter or break.

5. Stencil – Outline “BOOK” on one side and “TOY” on the other.

6. Enjoy – Your kiddos will think it’s fun to push around, and you’ll love that they’re helping.

This rolling toy storage box would be perfect for keeping library books from getting lost around the house too! In the summer we check out about 20-25 books a week and this cart would be perfect to keep them all organized so they don’t get mixed up in our own collection of books.
