I’m in love with all things black and white so I’ve been crafting in lots of black and white lately. {grin} Like this DIY cake plate I whipped up with chalk paint. I like the texture it gave the wood. I made it for a tailgate party, but it’s perfect for my new office too. I just redesigned my studio space is gray/silver and black and white… and I love it. It’s so easy to add pops of color when I want them! I’ll show it to you later this week… just a few more tweaks to go!
Okay, let’s get crafty! To make this easy cake plate, you’ll need the following items. I picked them up from Jo-Ann Fabric and Craft Store:
- Wooden candle stick
- Wooden circle
- White chalk spray paint
- Martha Stewart mini painters tape
- Plaid Paints Serious Black chalk paint
- Paint brush
- Elmer’s wood glue
- Optional: Chalkboard Cardstock
Super simple DIY:
- Spray paint, two coats, each wooden piece and allow to dry overnight
- Tape stripes
- Paint between stripes and allow to dry for at least 30 minutes
- Remove tape
- Glue two wood pieces together and allow to set for 6 hours
- Optional: Cut chalkboard cardstock in circle and place on top of cake plate. If you have a Cricut Explore, you can use my Design Space circle file and resize for your cake plate top.
Shop this project in my latest post with Jo-Ann Fabric and Craft Store. And while you’re there, check out a few of my other posts on the Jo-Ann blog, The Creative Spark. This one is a super simple chalkboard cake topper.
I can also teach you how to make the GAME ON popcorn bags using a few goodies I picked up at Jo-Ann! Hop over and and I’ll teach you how!
As always, I hope you’re inspired to craft, bake, create and celebrate!
