Kid Friendly Halloween Party Tips
We like a bit of spook, without the scary. I started hosting an annual Halloween party when my kids were just toddlers and at that time, the last thing I wanted to put in front of them was severed heads and caskets. That said, I love a good fun spook like spider webs and flowing ghosts. Now my kids are a bit older and we’ve moved back south near my family so the annual party has turned from being just friends and neighbors to being a lot of family. So even though my kids are a bit older, we have lots of littles in the group.
When you’re planning, a few things to consider:
Faces – even when you use a scary element, like a ghost, make sure it has a silly face to put the kids at ease.
Colors – keep it bright and cheery. You can have all the spiders, bats and ghosts you want, as long as you weave in bright oranges, purples, etc.
Everyday elements – make sure you weave in some big pumpkins and maybe hay bales. The everyday can put the little people at ease, especially with our group because the hayride is at dusk through the woods!
Kid Friendly Halloween Party Decorations
When it comes to decorations, we stick to all the traditional bats, spiders and owls oh my! {wink} These are from my Haunted Halloween paper craft collection (available on Amazon & other retailers). Here are a few more great and inexpensive ways to fill the party space:
Balloons – it doesn’t get any cheaper than a balloon and they fill a space so quickly!
Garland – you can buy them or make them in minutes with a punch or die cutting machine like Cricut. I love to hang them all over the room and more often than not, I hang them with Command Strips or Scotch Tape.
Treats – my treats often double as decoration. Add a sticker to goodie bags, decorate cookies, tie a straw to a drink with ribbon. They all look so cute and pull the room and dessert table together.
Pumpkins & Hay – I’m on the natural elements again. They’re inexpensive, they come in mini sizes and they work great as space fillers. JoAnn Fabric and Craft Stores sells a mini hay bale that works perfect for even table top!
