Keeping things organized is the only thing that keeps me sane. With a business in my home, two kids and just life in general, there is soooooo much stuff! Even if you only have kiddos to deal with, I know you know what I mean. {wink}
So here’s an easy organization idea. I know you’ve seen those unfinished or white crates stacked up in the center isles at your local Jo-Ann Fabric and Craft Store. They’re so easy to paint and decorate, but my favorite thing to do with them is to add casters and make them roll!
I actually have several that I’ve made for different reasons around my house. My first was for my boys’ room to store toys, then we made a roller crate for library books (we tend to checkout 20 at a time!), and most recently I’ve made them for my office to help organize upcoming projects.
One of my favorite elements is the chalkboard paint because I can organize my project with a reminder of when it’s due and then I can change the title when I move on to another project!
Here’s what you’ll need:
- Crate
- 4 small casters
- Chalkboard paint (FolkArt has several colors)
- Paintbrushes
- Bistro chalk markers
- Drill or screwdriver
- Optional: Painters tape. I used Martha Stewart’s brand for the small edges and Scotch for the larger areas
And here are the easy steps:
- Add casters. Use a drill or a screwdriver to insert them into each corner. Be slow so that you don’t split the wood.
- Use painters tape or a stencil if you’d like a pattern.
- Use chalkboard markers to add a label. And then erase it when you’re ready and add a new label!
Now just fill it up with your kid’s toys, library books, craft projects, mail… the possibilities are endless!
